Back to School with FiOS #SomosFiOS (Sponsored)

It’s that time of year again…

From where I sit in my loft-like, converted 1903 barn apartment overlooking the hills of Mt. Washington and the buildings from Downtown L.A., I see the parents and kids walking along the sidewalks loaded down with bags full of back-to-school supplies.  My own grandchildren are sporting shiny new clothes and backpacks and seeing them prepare brings back memories of hectic shopping and organizing for the new school year with my own children.

How different it is now!  A lot of kids are not carrying books in those backpacks, but e-readers, tablets with reading and learning apps and mobile phones.  When my grandkids come here, they tend to bypass my extensive library these days and head straight for my tablets.  Don’t worry – they still do what I call REAL reading time.  When you’ve a house full of tablet, laptop, desktop users all draining your internet speed at the same time, it makes a huge impact if you have a fast, reliable provider.

I’ve had them all – bad to worse; mediocre and decent; fast and stellar services.   As a writer and blogger as well as a grandmother with techy grandkids, I want the really good stuff – lightening fast without stalling.  No one likes to be kept waiting.  I am a total fangirl when it comes to Verizon.  Yes, I’m compensated for this post, but that doesn’t make it any less true.  Verizon fills my needs. If friends come over as they often do and need to connect, they always comment on my fast internet service.  I can research Pancho Villa, while listening to corridos on my computer while the grandkids are watching videos on tablets, playing games on the mobile phone or downloading more books onto their Kindles all without a glitch or hitch in speed or productivity.

So, what fancy gadgets are your kids taking to school this year?  Are these things making homework assignments easier or just less done?  Are tablets on your back-to-school lists?  If so, Verizon and #Somos-FiOS have a great opportunity for you!  Join the Twitter party on August 21st (next Tuesday) and you will be entered into a random drawing for one of two great prizes…state of the art tablets! One is a Kindle HD and the other a Samsung Galaxy Tab.  Pretty fancy, que no?  All you have to do is RSVP (this is very important) using the link below and then come to the party on Twitter and participate.  It will be a lot of fun, bilingual and you’ll learn a lot besides having the chance to come away with something pretty darned fabulous.
